MRHS Pasifika Students Explore Nation's Capital

Pasifika Reward Excursion

Last week ten MRHS students explored the nation’s capital for the Pasifika encouragement reward excursion.

The students checked off a long list of Canberra’s must-see sites, including the National Dinosaur Museum, Australian War Memorial, National Zoo and Aquarium, Riddle Room Canberra, Parliament House, Museum of Australian Democracy, Questacon, and Mount Ainslie Lookout.

Organised by our Pacific Islander Community Liaison Officer Nau Mahe, the excursion rewarded Pasifika students for outstanding attendance and behaviour in 2022. The invited students were Henry Ah Kee, Rocky Ivitai, Lusiana Isaia, Paulini Qoro, Ericka Tonga, Kellee Rose Matenga, Maryah Popole, Salesi Fatafehi, Jaylan Tia, Schapelle Nuumaalii and BJ Aloniu.

Some of the high points for the students included the National Zoo and Aquarium visits. The Riddle Room Canberra was also a hit with the kids. The challenge brought the students together as team members had to regain their freedom by cracking a combination of riddles and locks.

Notably, the students also got to meet Member for Farrer Sussan Ley at Parliament House. Henry Ah Kee and BJ Aloniu also laid a wreath at the War Memorial’s moving Last Post ceremony on behalf of the school.

“On the go from sunup till sundown, our students were exhausted by the end of their four-day journey. However, they enjoyed spending time together outside of school, making new friends and visiting places they’d never been,” explains PICLO and excursion supervisor Nau Mahe.

“There were some extraordinary moments during this trip,” continues Miss Mahe, “and I’m very fortunate to have been able to share these with the students, becoming part of their lifelong memories.”
