Two Big Rugby Wins for Murrumbidgee at Wagga

Rugby Wagga

On Wednesday, both our under 15s and open boys rugby league teams flew the Murrumbidgee flag high in Wagga Wagga.

The opens played their University Shield match against Kooringal High School. Murrumbidgee got off to a strong start, taking an early 12 nil lead. This, however, only served to inspired Kooringal, who managed to close the gap 12 all by half time.

After half time, a one-on-one strip lead to a try which lead to a charge for MRHS. Murrumbidgee took the day 38-24.

Chaise Sergi was in control of the game throughout the match and Wilfred Loganimoce ran off the back fence the whole game. Teammate Isaiah Nauer also managed to put in a commendable performance.

Across the ground, our under 15s team played Kildare Catholic College in the Country Cup. The boys got off to a good start, putting in some solid defence with Jezaiah Charles scoring the first try for MRHS. Kildare then managed to score on the back of a few errors by Murrumbidgee, with the Catholic College up 14-6 at half time.

At the beginning of the second half, Nate Charles capitalised off a Kildare knock on, running the length of the field to score. This sparked a huge turn around in the game, with Murrumbidgee beating Kildare 32 to 14.

“The team put in an excellent effort,” recounts under 14s coach Matt Ruming, “Especially considering a player on the bench an injury in the second half left us with no substitutes.”

The open boys team will progress to the next round University Shield against Chifley College in Sydney in term 3. The day should prove to be an exciting double header, with our Buckley Shield team also taking on Chifley College on the same day.

The Under 15s will progress through to the next round of their comp in Cootamundra term 3, week 2.

Well done on both of the wins, boys!
