Murrumbidgee Under 14s Rugby Declared Regional Champions

Buckley Shield

The Murrumbidgee Regional High School Buckley Shield team powered through the Western Riverina comp yesterday, putting Leeton High School and Yanco Ag in their place.

The first game of the match was played against Leeton High School, who were defeated by an impressive 40 – nil. A victory all the more impressive when you consider the game was played in fifteen-minute halves.

The easy victory, however, left the team a little bit too sure of themselves entering the final against Yanco Agricultural College. There was a shaky start to the match, with the boys dropping the ball and making several unforced errors in the early part of the game.

The team eventually found their footing and pulled together, scoring three miraculous tries in the back half of the game and winning  18 – 6.

Jeziah Charles’ imposing stature proved unstoppable on the field during the two matches. Meanwhile, David Fineanganofo was electric around the ruck, scoring a number of tries throughout the day. Junior Seu also made some great defensive reads and some formidable runs.

“Once again our Buckley Shield side is looking very strong,” explains coach Adam McCann, “I’m looking forward to our next game against a South Coast team or a Western Sydney team.”

Well done boys!
