Lesley Represents MRHS at Moorambilla

Moorambilla

Last week, Year 7 student Lesley Lemoto took to the stage at Dubbo Regional Theatre, representing Murrumbidgee Regional High School in the gala concert Moorambilla Riversong 2022.

The brainchild of Michelle Leonard OAM, Moorambilla Voices is a choir of excellence that encompasses regional children and youth. More than 300 students from regional and rural NSW participated in the 2022 program. Lesley’s journey began after attending a free workshop organised by Soroptomist International Griffith Inc during the autumn school holidays.

After accepting an offer to join the Moorambilla MAXed OUT ensemble, Lesley had the rare and valuable opportunity to connect with Australian composers, musicians, choreographers and visual artists to create a new multi art form work and learn basic and advanced performance skills.

During a five-day residency camp at Baradine in August, Lesley learned choral singing, compositional techniques, percussion, Taiko (Japanese drumming), dance and movement skills. An additional five-day residency camp was held at Dubbo last week, culminating in this year’s gala concert.

‘Moorambilla was the best thing I’ve done in my life,’ Lesley said. ‘I learned so much, but my favourite activity was Taiko drumming. It was a fun, powerful new experience. Moorambilla taught me that I can go anywhere, meet new people from all over NSW and easily make new friends.’
