MRHS Beats Yanco Ag in First Game of University Shield

University Shield

MRHS played their first match of the University Shield today against Yanco Ag today. Murrumbidgee dominated the agricultural college an impressive 44-4.

The game comes off the back of last term's Fifita Cup, which served as a qualifier for the University Shield. There was some apprehension in the lead up to the game, with notable late team exclusions due to representative commitments. Any concerns about the team’s performance were quickly dismissed, however, with the Bidgee scoring early on and never looking back. Though Yanco regrouped in the second half, the damage had already been done and the team were left in MRHS’s wake.

Akon Titio was named man of the match for his impressive performance on the field. Sam Burley was also a big asset for his formidable defence and over 20 carries during the match. Chaise Sergi’s leadership on the halves was also instrumental to the team’s success.

“The boys stuck to the game plan and looked really sharp with the ball,” explains coach Adam McCann, “We’ve still got a lot of work to do between now and the finals though, so we need to make sure we hit our training sessions hard.”

The victory sees MRHS crowned Riverina champions for 2022. The team will play the quarter-finals in the coming weeks against a yet to be decided team from the South Coast. Fantastic work, boys!
