Last term, Michaela from the Deadly STEMers was hard at work printing the new Deadly STEMers uniform.
Under the guidance of Ian Preston, Michaela designed the logo using CAD and then had it cut from vinyl with a large format digital vinyl cutter. The vinyl was then transferred to hoodies and polo shirts using a heat press.
The Deadly STEMers is an initiative created by the MRHS Science faculty and Aboriginal Learning and Engagement Centre (ALEC). The members are selected from Year 10 students who had expressed an interest in STEM subjects. The program aims to get more Indigenous students interested in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
“Michaela’s shirts have been the talk of the school,” explains Carl Chirgwin, one of the Deadly STEMers coordinators, “She made great use of STEM resources and the final product looks fantastic!”
The Deadly STEMers have big things planned for Reconciliation Week and Science Week in the coming months, so watch this space!
