Year 10 Work Studies Tours St Vincent's

Year 10 Work Studies

Yesterday, Year 10 Work Education students enjoyed a lunch at Il Corso before exploring careers in the medical field at St Vincent’s Hospital.

The eight students were given a guided tour by Gabrielle Wood covering every aspect of the St Vincent facility, from the reception to the ward to the surgery. Students even donned gowns, and got to handle clamps, forceps, and retractors.

The class then attended a panel where staff shared their career journeys. They heard from a junior physiotherapist, the manager of the sterilisation unit and a senior nurse. There was a question and answer session afterward.

“The kids really enjoyed the day. It was great for them to get exposed to different roles in health,” explains work education teacher Carol-Anne Sutton, “We’ve even had a student enquire about a school based traineeship in nursing.”

Thanks to the staff at St Vincent’s Hospital Griffith for showing us around. The students had a fantastic time!
