MRHS Honoured by Air Force Cadets

Air Force Cadets

On Saturday evening at the Griffith Exies Club, five MRHS students and Deputy Principal Michael Burke celebrated the 5th year of the 340 City of Griffith Squadron Air Force Cadets and the 100th year of the Royal Austrailan Air Force.

Riley McPherson and Kaiden Simpson, the Dining President and Dining Vice President respectively and both MRHS students, lead the proceedings for the evening. On the agenda were presentations from active servicemen and tributes to the fallen.

The cadets were also the grateful recipients of the key to the city, presented by  mayor John Dal Broi to the squadron. The key to the city permits the cadets to march with their swords drawn, bayonets fixed and drums beating. Finally, MRHS was honoured with a Certificate of Appreciation for Support of the Squadron over the past five years.

The Air Force Cadets is a youth oriented organisation that is administered and organised by the Royal Australian Air Force. They promote leadership, self-reliance, confidence, teamwork and communication among their membership. They also take on a lot of fun activities like flying, fieldcraft, firearms safety training, drill, ceremonial, service knowledge, aeromodelling, navigation and gliding.

“This is the second Air Force Cadets event I’ve attended.” explains Deputy Principal Michael Burke, “I’m in awe of the students, how they carry themselves and the confidence they’ve developed with their time in the cadets.”

If you are interested in joining the 240 City of Griffith Squadron Air Force Cadets, you can talk to Mr. Burke or an existing member about membership.
