Athletics Carnival 2021

2021 MRHS Athletics Carnival

Yesterday was the 2021 MRHS Athletics Carnival. It was a day of fun and sun, until the last hour of the event, when the weather turned on us.

After roll call, the students were herded into buses and sent off to Jubilee to face off against each other in all manner of track and field events. Competitors tried their hands at javelin, discus, shot put, long jump, high jump, 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m and 1500m.

The participation and sportsmanship was particularly good this year, with each event filled with serious competitors and students who were willing to give it their best shot. Team spirits were high too, with an assortment of bananas, army women, frogs and superheroes taking to the field to redeem points for their house.

Year 12 used the event as an opportunity to fundraise, donating the profits from the canteen they ran to charity. There were also some students running a raffle for Dolly’s Dream on the day, a particularly worthy cause.

At about 2, the skies opened on the event, with students having to make a dash for the buses. Thankfully, the major events were all accounted for. Now, as the results are tallied, the school waits with baited breath to find out which students will progress to zone on 26 May in Leeton and which house will take the day. More to come.
