Fifita Cup: MRHS VS St Francis

Girls playing Rugby

Last night Murrumbidgee Regional High School faced off against Saint Francis de Sales Regional College in the Fifita Cup. The boys team won with a resounding 24 - nil victory and the girls team put up an admirable fight against Saint Francis but were ultimately defeated 16 – 10.

Stand out players on the girls team were the two try scorers Beyonce Marela and Moerai Rangirua Makonia and Sabrina Marela who played an essential support role. Moerai and Kathleen Asomua also put up a fierce defence, blocking a number of Saint Francis’ tries with some memorable tags and holding the line for Murrumbidgee.

The boys team managed to convert all of their tries. Daniel Parisotto put in an especially commendable performance, scoring 2 tries. The other try scorers from the Murrumbidgee side were Brodie Mirtschin and Elvis Nauer-Wood.

The victory was a team effort, however. Riley Serafin made a lot of good carries for the team and kept the momentum up, while the birthday boy Wilisoni Nabete made some great steps. There was also some strong centre work from Eddie Tiaina.

“The boys played well. Momentum was really strong.” said student field assistant Salesi Fatafehi “The motivation from the crowd really lifted the boys spirits in the second half.”

Congratulations to all of our players! You’ve done Murrumbidgee Regional High School proud!
