Geography Students Analyse MRHS

Geography Incursion

Yesterday, Geography students from Year 8, 9 and 10 convened at Wade site for a day of practical geography.

Aided by special guest Darron Watt from the Riverina Environmental Education Centre, students tested soil and water quality from the school grounds and compared them with samples taken from across the Riverina.

Students tested the pH, ammonia, phosphorous, salinity and turbidity of the water and the temperature, colour, texture and pH of the soil. They were also required to measure wind speed, direction, cloud cover and to draw a field sketch of Scenic Hill.

“Despite the heat, it was nice being out on our own grounds testing conditions,” explains Geography teacher Ms Murdoch, “It was a great opportunity for the students to get some hands-on experience collecting data in the field.”
