Year 7 Learn About Women's Health

Womens Health

On Wednesday at Murrumbidgee Regional High School, all Year 7 girls attended an online presentation on women's health. The presentation lasted 2 hours and discussed all things period related. The purpose was to inform young women about their bodies so that they can have the best health possible.

Among the topics discussed were typical and non-typical period symptoms, what to do if you need help at school and the products available on the market today.

Of special interest to the girls was the impact on the environment of feminine hygiene products. The girls learned that it can take between 300 and 500 years for tampons and pads to decompose, meaning that the first mass produced feminine hygiene products have still not yet broken down in the environment.

All of the girls received a bag to take away containing an organic tampon or pad, a voucher to redeem a pair of Modibodi period underwear and some literature.

“I learned a lot today. I also learnt about my body and what I can do to help period symptoms,” said one student.

“I can't believe it takes that long for pads to break down!” said another.

The presentation was delivered by Bright Girl Health who believe in empowering young girls with the information to understand their body so they can make the most informed health choices now and in the future.
