This term saw our Year 10 students ask some of the big questions for Project X.
Project X is the culmination of an entire term of experimentation across a variety of different sciences. It was on the students to come up with a hypothesis and then build an experiment to prove or disprove it using the scientific method. As you can imagine, the topics covered were wide-ranging and incredibly creative.
Paige Sergi’s examination of which soap was best which saw dirtying and then cleaning her hands. She then examined the results under a UV light. Meanwhile, Digby Jones’ exploration of which would was the most flammable, cleverly titled The Lumber Games, found radiata pine and white cypress to be the most flammable woods out of the samples he examined.
Taleira Goolagong’s love of textiles showed in her study on which textile the tensile strength of textiles and Michelle Adams examination of bullet penetration saw her fire weapons into A4 paper.
Both Stella Matthews and Flynn Edis examined mouldy bread, with Flynn adding his disgusting samples to his board contained in plastic bags. Paul Langi, on the other hand, explored the AI revolution by pitting a chess expert against a computer.
There were numerous studies into sports, with Connah Vecchio studying the optimal air pressure for a basketball, Jordan Virago and Liam James analysing best cricket techniques.
There were countless other fascinating studies conducted and it’s clear the students all put a huge amount of time, effort and love into testing their hypotheses. Well done to all of our Year 10s for another amazing year of Project X!
