Murrumbidgee Celebrates Wear It Purple Day

Wear It Purple Day

Today the school celebrated Wear It Purple day with free ribbons, wrist bands, stickers, rainbow sour straps and a cake stall.

Wear It Purple Day is celebrated across Australia on the last Friday of every August. The purpose of the day is to show support for the LGBTIQA+ community.

Teachers Cailyn Loveday, Mary Casey and Year 12 were instrumental in putting the day together. The commitment from our Year 12 students was especially commendable, with our volunteers coming in to help celebrate the day during their trial HSC.

“Youth mental health issues are important,” explains teacher Mary Casey, “Members of the LGBTIQA+ need to know that they are okay to be themselves and that we value love and support them. We’re here to empower them.”

Well done to our Mrs Casey, Ms Loveday and our wonderful volunteers for making our school a more inclusive place.
