Ag Plot in Full Swing in the Lead Up to Spring

Ag Plot

It’s been all hands on deck down at the ag plot, with students working hard to get the facility ready for spring.

This term, the school have borrowed two calves as part the Cows Create Careers program. The two dairy cows (Ice and Cream) have to be fed twice a day, have their pens mucked out twice a week and have their weight gain monitored over the six-week program.

Students have also been working on their chicken handling skills with the Cobb 5000 broiler chickens. Not only have the class had to catch the birds, they’ve then had to practice their hypnosis skills, using three different techniques to calm them down. The birds are then checked for ticks and mites.

The ag plot are also getting ready to welcome a fresh batch of crossbred eggs in the incubator, with a forecast 96% hatching rate expected, so things don’t look like they’ll be slowing down at the farm any time soon!
