MRHS Girls Basketball Keep Region on Toes at Gala Day

Girls Basketball

On Wednesday 15 March the MRHS open girls basketball team went to Narrandera for a Combined High Schools GALA Day. Though the girls didn’t take the day, they all had a fantastic time, with each team member contributing in their own way.

The first game against Leeton saw the girls defence efforts limit scoring options but ultimately succumbing to the better team. Game 2 against Tumut High School was closer still, but Tumut’s teamwork and shooting saw another loss for the MRHS girls. Murrumbidgee’s rebounds and free throws did however, keep Tumut on their toes

The girls were reinvigorated by a win against Rural Access Program in game 3. Although it was a strong game for Murrumbidgee, there was a close call where RAP came within 2 points in the final quarter. Luckily, MRHS regrouped and ran away with the win by a good margin.

The final game against hosts Narrandera High School was unfortunately another loss. Narrandera, who wound up winning the day, had a height advantage and some strong ball skills. Despite this, MRHS put up a good fight and kept the game competitive.

Standout players from MRHS were Mackenzie Hassan, Ella Gaske, Natalia Vecchio and Chelsea Upcroft. Year 12 student Lyndzi Cornale, who has loyally represented Murrumbidgee in basketball though the years, left the court with a guard of honor provided by her team-mates.

Special thanks to Mrs Casey for coaching the girls, Mr Townsing for driving the bus and Mr Dethridge for his organisation.
