MRHS student and DOVES representative Madisyn Sarkis met personal hero Eddie Woo at the 2023 DOVES conference earlier this month.
Madisyn spent three days in Parramatta getting to know her fellow Department of Student Voices in Education members, networking with the Minister for Education and Early Learning Sarah Mitchell and attending the Annual General Meeting.
It was her chance to get a photo with mathematician and internet celebrity Eddie Woo that made the most significant impact on the Year 8 student. “He was in the same hotel as us, having lunch and got swarmed by every kid there,” she recounts.
Eddie Woo is an Australian secondary school teacher and writer best known for his online mathematics lessons published on Youtube. He has previously hosted a show called Teenage Boss on the ABC, which gave teenagers control of their family’s financial decisions for a month. He has also delivered a TEDx Talk titled Mathematics is the sense you never knew you had.
Madisyn will continue her participation with DOVES until the end of the year. Her duties include attending online and in-person meetings with the Minister for Education and Early Learning on upcoming policy changes. Great work, Madisyn!
