Yesterday, Year 11 headed out to Lake Wyangan to perform their first HSC Mathematics assessment task. The students from Mathematics Standard 1 and Mathematics Standard 2 took advantage of the warm weather to take some measurements and perform some calculations.
Some of the exercises undertaken were measuring the height of a tree using trigonometry, performing a compass radial survey, measuring area using a trapezoidal rule, a traverse offset survey and a plane table survey.
It wasn’t all hard work though. While the students finished up their calculations, the teachers cooked up a barbecue lunch for everyone to enjoy.
““The students get to see maths in action with an activity like this,” explains teacher Ms Shivani, “They had a really great day, despite the heat.”
