Over the past two weeks, Year 11 have taken a break from the regular curriculum to learn a bit about life beyond school in the Life Ready program.
Life Ready is designed to prepare and support senior students as they encounter the fast-approaching real world. The topics covered included finance, sexual health, responsible choices and safe travel.
There was also a handful of guest speakers to lend their expertise to the workshops. Police officer Alex Davies came to the school to discuss road safety, and the school’s Youth Outreach Worker, Jeremy Sharpe, spoke to the students about mental health.
The two-day seminar ended with the Year 11s competing against one another in an amazing race. The groups of students had to rush frantically around the school to complete a series of physical, mental and emotional challenges. The final day of Life Ready gave students the opportunity to debrief and discuss the topics they had covered.
“Attendance and engagement were unreal,” explains teacher Matt Ruming, “The students were very grateful for the opportunity to hang out as a year group.”
Special thanks to Alex Davies, the PDHPE Staff, Jeremy Sharpe, our general assistants and the Admin staff for making the day possible.
