Students Emma King and Soham Ghosh had a fantastic run this week at the Junior State Debating Championship with the Riverina team.
The students performed admirably in a competitive field and were only a single loss away from debating in the State semi finals. Over the two days, the Riverina team competed in five full debates. Between debates, they participated in training sessions and observed other teams competing.
The team debated a range of topics like media, gender, home, family, religion and education. Students were given one hour to prepare the debates armed with only pens, paper and their own prior knowledge.
The Riverina team presented thoughtful, reasoned discourse and offered practical solutions to perceived problems in modern society. They were commended on their sportsmanship and developed some wonderful friendships with students from across NSW who share their passion for debating.
The team celebrated their success over ice cream with their new friends before watching the final debate between North Sydney and Sydney regions.
Special thanks to Libby Ridgway for coordinating and mentoring the team through this prestigious competition.
