Year 12 Music 2 student and piano virtuoso Leo Forner managed to win the coveted Nancy Blumer award last week at the Griffith Regional Theatre.
The award, named after late Griffith musician Nancy Blumer, was established in 1963 and is open to musicians between the ages of 12 and 18 living within 160 km of Griffith. It coincides with the Os Butler Award for young vocalists in the area.
Leo’s performance of Rachmaninoff’s Prelude in C sharp minor also won him the people’s choice award. It’s the second win in the competition for Leo, with the musician having taken out the Nancy Blumer award in 2018.
The award wasn’t the only good news for Leo this month, with the young musician finding out only this morning that he’s been accepted into ANU’s music program. Amazing work, Leo!
