Over the past few months, Murrumbidgee Regional High School has been host to students from a range of primary and high schools across the region participating in the New South Wales Virtual STEM Academy (NSWVSA).
Hosted by Murrumbidgee Regional High School through the Murrumbidgee Academy of STEM Excellence (MASE), the NSWVSA provides enrichment STEM for students in Years 5 to 9. While the majority of the lessons are provided online, students have more recently had the opportunity to participate in hands on STEM activities on site at MRHS.
From its humble origins in 2021 as a trial with eight students across four partner schools, the NSW Virtual STEM Academy is now entering its second phase. This year the program is on target to reach 350 students across 18 schools.
The NSWVSA will look to further expand to other Academies of STEM Excellence across the state under the guidance of MRHS Deputy Principal and NSWVSA Manager Ian Preston. In addition, the success of the NSWVSA has inspired a national Australian Virtual STEM Academy again with Mr Preston as one of the key stakeholders.
Both the Murrumbidgee Academy of STEM Excellence and the Virtual STEM Academy are initiatives that were developed at Murrumbidgee Regional High School and prove that our school is leading the way in STEM education in NSW and providing students with access to outstanding STEM opportunities.
