It’s been a big week for the Human Society in It’s Environment (HSIE) faculty this week with Year 9 students getting out and about to learn more about History and Geography.
Geography students did a range of tests to measure the quality of soil, salinity and pH. The students made maps and sketched environmental features on Scenic Hill to emulate the type of work geographers do in the field.
Meanwhile, the Year 9 historians got to see and handle genuine artefacts from the First World War. Shane from Living Histories: World War 1 delivered stories about life in the trenches for Australian soldiers. He talked about who the soldiers who fought under the Australian flag were and their lives. A couple of lucky students even got to get kitted up in an average ANZAC’s kit.
Despite the cold, the year had a ball getting out of the classroom. Special thanks to Shane from Living Histories: World War 1 for coming to the school and exhibiting your fantastic collection of artefacts.
