Year 11 Maths Surveys Lake Wyangan

Maths Survey

Monday, Year 11 headed out to Lake Wyangan to perform their first HSC Mathematics assessment task. The students from Mathematics Standard 1 and Mathematics Standard 2 took advantage of the warm weather to take some measurements and perform some calculations.

Some of the exercises undertaken were measuring the height of a tree using trigonometry, a compass radial survey, measuring the area of a road using the trapezoidal rule, a traverse offset survey and a plane table survey.

It wasn’t all hard work though. While the students finished up their calculations, the teachers cooked up a barbecue lunch for everyone to enjoy.

“The students got to do real calculations of real measurements they’d taken. It was also great to get out in the sun and everyone loves a sausage sizzle!” exclaimed Mathematics Head Teacher Leanne Tregea.
