CHS Boys Tennis First Knockout

CHS Boys Tennis

The CHS boys tennis played their first game of the season on Monday and despite an unanticipated illness in the morning, the team returned victorious.

On the morning of the game, Jack Fry unfortunately had to call in sick. Luckily for us, substitute Patrick Payne took the call at 8.15am and rounded out the team of Ben Fattore, Broden Spencer and Bailey Cullen. The team were then off to Yanco to play their first round in the knockout.

MRHS played hard. Very hard. Both Ben and Broden managed to snap strings on their rackets, which was both an unprecedented and unexpected development for supervisor Kathy Gee. Luckily for MRHS, and in a gracious display of sportsmanship, the players from Riverina Access Program loaned the team their spares.

MRHS triumphed convincingly over RAP, which was made up of players from Barellan and Arlethan. Their subsequent victory over Yanco, however, came down to the wire. Both teams managed to win the same number of sets, however MRHS managed to score match point.

Murrumbidgee will move on to play the Riverina Finals Knockout against Billabong High School in the coming weeks. Of the boys’ success, Coach Kathy Gee says “The boys’ play was outstanding. They just smashed. It was very professional, fast paced tennis. Even the other coaches mentioned that it was good tennis to watch.”

Congratulations, boys and well done!
