MRHS sent an astounding 11 players to Canberra last week to play for the Riverina Reps Rugby League team. What’s even more amazing is 4 players have qualified for the Southern NSW team which was put together from Riverina and South Coast players.
On Monday 5 May, the Reps took on the South Coast in Bruce, ACT. Though all the Riverina teams were bested by the South Coast, there were some outstanding performances from MRHS players that managed to get them to the combined team.
On the Riverina Open Boys Rugby League team, Elvis Nauer-Wood, Riley Serafin, Sam Burley, Brodie Mirtschin and Omega Liu represented the school with Elvis qualifying for the Southern NSW. The Boys Under 15 Rugby League had Jasvir Singh-Clark, Mason Payne and Leon Aloniu from MRHS with Mason Payne qualifying for a position on the combined team.
Meanwhile, on the Riverina Girls Under 16 Rugby League Team, Moerai Rangirua Makonia, Sialalua Asomua and Tangata Toru were playing from MRHS with both Moerai and Sialalua earning a spot on Southern NSW.
The players will move to the next level of the competition with Southern NSW playing at the carnival in Wollongong. There, they will pitch themselves against players from across the state.
“It was worth to it to go out to Canberra and play.” explains Mason Payne, “It’s the furthest I’ve made it in the game. I’m proud to be going to Wollongong at this level.”
Congratulations to all of our students who made it out to Canberra! Playing rugby league at a regional level is a competitive affair and it’s an great achievement to even be in consideration for these teams.
