SALT Comes To MRHS

SALT Comes To MRHS

Today, SALT (Supporting and Linking Tradeswomen) came to Murrumbidgee Regional High School to encourage some of the female students to take up a trade.

The five tradespeople from across the state spoke a little bit about their careers before walking the girls through building a wooden toolbox. The purpose of the workshop was to teach the girls to use tools such as set squares, drills, hammers, drop saws and jigsaws. Students were also walked through industry safety standards.

Created in 2009, SALT was created to provide support and mentoring to tradeswomen across Australia. Their goals are to provide avenues for women to meet other tradeswomen and share their experiences, advocate a change in attitudes towards women in trades and promote diversity in trades.

All in all, the girls had a wonderful day learning about tools and have some fantastic toolboxes to show for it.
